 FIFA 99

This was the third FIFA title in a little over a year. It incorporates 42 national sides, as well as 250 club teams from 12 different leagues, to play a complete true-to-life season, the preset Super League, or a league or cup of your own design. Formations and tactics can be set, and players can be moved between teams.

Gameplay can be viewed from multiple angles. Players have more animation than ever before, with new moves including sliding challenges and close-control trapping. Goalkeepers now have a level of human control.

FIFA 2000

The millennium installment of EAs popular soccer franchise brings a new match engine, over 450 club teams and 40 national from all over the world and also allowing to make dream matches between some of the Worlds' finest teams ever, such as Man. Utd. 1968 and early 90s AC Milan. A team and player editor allows complete edition of the teams. Game modes include Friendly, Cup, League (all customizable) and Season.

Gameplay is faster than it's predecessor, and also featuring a new shielding mode, to protect the ball when alone in front and set pieces from corners, which allow the player to kick the ball accurately to a player in the area.

FIFA 2001

The game includes teams from 16 national leagues (missing the Korean league from the PC/PS2 version) and 58 international teams (10 less than the PC/PS2 version). Gameplay modes are the same as on PS2: exhibition games, season play for the included leagues (without Brazil), tournaments (World Cup, EFA trophy and ECC) and a training mode. There is a player and team editor, but due to engine limitations, players are not modeled after their real-life counterparts as on PS2.

Four different camera perspectives are available in-game, customizable in height and zoom factor. Again due to engine limitations, the PS1 version does not feature any licensed stadiums. Controls are mostly the same as on the other versions, with simple, intermediate and advanced controls allowing for headers, volleys, one-touch moves, skill moves and in-game tactics changes. Noticeably absent however is the new power bar mechanic for controlling shot power.

FIFA 2002

The game includes teams from 13 national leagues (missing Brazil, Korea and Switzerland from the next-gen version), 15 rest-of-the-world teams and 81 international teams (with the 41 teams of the African confederation missing compared to the next-gen version).

Game modes include friendlies, season play for all 13 leagues, World Cup qualification tournaments for the three included confederations covering Europe, North and South America, the EFA trophy, the European Champions Cup and custom cups. Three further tournaments can be unlocked by winning the WC qualification tournaments. Winning tournaments also unlocks Panini-licensed collectors' images of star players and some cheating options.

On the pitch, little has changed, with similar graphics and the same camera options (missing the new perspectives introduced on next-gen versions). Controls are similar as well, but a major change having made its way over from the other versions are power bars for both shots and passes, allowing for more precise play.
